What are my funding options?

Many of our students are unsure about how to pay for their graduate degree, but there are a number of options you can choose from to help alleviate some of your financial concerns.

  • Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): The FAFSA is easy, free, and takes an average of 17 minutes to complete.
  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan: Graduate students may borrow up to a maximum total of $20,500 per academic year.
  • Federal Graduate PLUS Loan: This is available to fully admitted graduate students (enrolled at least half-time) whose maximum federal loan eligibility is not sufficient to cover their educational costs.
  • Federal Perkins Loan: This is a low-interest federal student loan for students with exceptional financial need.
  • Outside Scholarships: Scholarships from private sources are an additional method of financing your graduate education. The University recommends that students apply for other scholarship and fellowship funds which may be available through outside sources: the state or federal government, private donors, and corporations.
  • Employer Tuition Benefits: Many employers offer tuition benefits, including tuition remission. Consult with your employer's human resources office for more information.
  • Veterans Benefits: Hopkins participates in all veteran programs, including Yellow Ribbon and the Post 9/11 GI Bill.

We understand that learning how you can afford your education is one of the biggest questions on your mind. We have an entire website devoted to this topic.
